HUNGRY GHOST FESTIVAL GHOST STORIES

HUNGRY GHOST FESTIVAL GHOST STORIES

This month beckons the Hungry Ghost months where Chinese believes that during this period the realms of Heaven and Hell and the realm of the living are open and both Taoist and Buddhist would perform rituals to transmute and absolve the sufferings of the deceased.

The month traditionally there will be a show of filial piety of descendants extends to their ancestors even after their deaths. Activities during the month would include preparing ritualistic food offerings, burning incense, and burning joss paper, a paper-mache form of material items such as clothes, gold and other fine goods for the visiting spirits of the ancestors.

Since the veil of the living and the dead is thinnest this month, we asked comedians, Papi zak, Kavin Jay, Phoon Chi Ho, Judith Chiew, AIIA improv actor Jit Yong and our very on Jeremy Teo for their stories of their close encounter of the ghostly kind
