Let's Talk About Hearing on AFO LIVE

According to World Health Organization 2018, around 466 million (5% of the world population) people worldwide have disabling hearing loss, and 34 million of these are children. The prevalence of disabling hearing loss is on an increasing trend with an estimation that by 2050 over 900 million people – or one in every ten people – will be diagnosed with the disability.

In Malaysia, hearing impairment among both children and adults is still common. 30% of 3.8 million senior citizens have some degree of hearing loss, but only 4.4% of them wore hearing aids whilst about 1 or 2 in 1000 children are born with hearing loss sufficient to require hearing aids. Sains Malaysiana 2017 also deduced that noise induced hearing loss (NIHL) has been the highest notifiable occupational health issue among Malaysian workers in 2014. Among workers with employment of more than 10 years, > 80% of them suffered from hearing loss.
